Abstract
While there has been significant investment in technology in schools across Ireland, a key question remains as to whether it is being used effectively in a way that promotes learning and allows teachers to differentiate. Through a mixed methods approach in which 27 teachers were surveyed and two took part in a semi-structured interview, this research project explored teachers’ attitudes towards technology and their views on its usefulness within the classroom. The study concluded that technology has significant benefits for teaching and learning but there are barriers on a system-wide and individual level which prevent technology from being used optimally, and this may result in fewer opportunities for student learning.
